Ανατολική Αφρική

Ανατολική Αφρική ονομάζεται η ανατολική περιοχή της Αφρικανικής ηπείρου, όπως ορίζεται από τη γεωγραφία ή τη γεωπολιτική. Σύμφωνα με τον Οργανισμό Ηνωμένων Εθνών, 19 περιοχές σχηματίζουν την Ανατολική Αφρική:[2]

Ο όρος Ανατολική Αφρική χρησιμοποιείται συχνά για να αναφερθεί στην περιοχή που σχηματίζεται μεταξύ της Κένυας, της Τανζανίας και της Ουγκάντας,[8][9][10][11] και (η πιο ευρεία έννοια του όρου) συγκαταλέγει επίσης τη Ρουάντα, το Μπουρούντι, τη Σομαλία, το Τζιμπουτί, την Αιθιοπία, την Ερυθραία και το Νότιο Σουδάν.[12][13][14][15][16][17] Ο πληθυσμός της, σύμφωνα με τη μέση εκτίμηση πληθυσμού των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για το 2022, εκτιμάται σε 471.707.000 κατοίκους[1], αποτελώντας το 33,1% του συνολικού πληθυσμού της Αφρικής και το 5,9% του παγκόσμιου πληθυσμού.

Η Αίγυπτος και το Σουδάν αν και αποτελούν τμήμα του βορειοανατολικού μέρους της ηπείρου[18], θεωρούνται κομμάτι της Βορείου Αφρικής.[19]
