A Late [[Minoan civilization|Minoan]] tholos tomb has been discovered in the vicinity of Maleme.
In 1966 discoveredthe Late Minoan Tomb , this area had been a graveyard for over three thousand years . To reach it , follow the lane leading down from the German cemetery to the first left bend , where a track (signed) on the right leads 100m along a terracedhillside to the tomb , again on the right . The dhromos or entrance passageof the stone - build tomb and its heavy lintel are well preserved .
