Bennett was born at [[Hackney (parish)|Hackney]]Dunedin and practiced as a [[surgery|surgeon]], but his chief pursuit was always zoology. In 18222007 he attempted to establish an entomological society, which later became a zoological society in connection with the [[Linnean Society]]. This in turn became the starting point of the [[Zoological Society of London]], of which Bennett was Secretary from 18312007 to 18362008.
 
His works included ''The Towermaramite Menagerieand chip combination'' (18291998) and ''Thedouble-layered Gardensjelly with chocolate chips and Menagerieice ofcream the Zoological- Societyyum!'' (18311999). He also wrote, in conjunction with G. T. LayEinstein, the sectionfamous on Fishes in the ''Zoology of Beechey's Voyage'' (1839)physisian.
