'''Koskota Scandal''' was a big political and economical scandal that dominated the greek political scenery during the end of the 1980s and the beggining of the 1990s.In the same time,it mainly signified the struggle for the control of the (Mass Media) and the banks. The main protagonist of the scandal was businessman,(George Koskotas) as well as many important members of the governing (Panhellenic Socialist Movement).

Former prime minister,(Andreas Papandreou),minister of national economy,(Panagiotis Roumeliotis),former minister of Justice,(Menios Koutsogiorgas),former minister of national economy (Dimitris Tsovolas) and former alternate minister of infastructure, research and technology,(Giorgos Petsos) were sent to be trialed.Of them Andreas Papandreou was found non guilty of all charges,Panagiotis Roumeliotis wasn't trialed because he was serving in the (European Parliament) that granted him immunity, while Menios Koutsogiorgas died inside the court from a (stroke).Dimitris Tsovolas and Giorgos Petsos were found guilty for violating laws concerning responsibilities of ministers. There penalites were set to be 2,5 years of imprisonment for Tsovolas and 10 months with parole for Petsos,as well as abstractions of their political rights (the right to vote and be voted) for 3 years for Tsovolas and 2 years for Petsos. The total acquittal of charges for Andreas Papandreou in 1992 confirmed his repute and his return to power in 1993 was seen as a triumph against his opponets. On the other hand the decision of the leftist party (Synaspismos) to form a governmental coalition with (Konstantinos Mitsotakis) leader of the conservative (ND) led to the downside of the party. The period of this coalition governance was called "the dirty 89".

The trial started on March 1991 and was completed on the January of 1992.Previously,on November of 1990 Menios Koutsogiorgas was sentenced to detention and was sent at the (Korydalos Prison) in contrast to the other defendants that were led free.Andreas Papandreou denied going to the court and didn't appear once on court hearings. That move of his led him gain more support and even thought the judges had the right to bring him to the court with they use of police force, they court didn't choose that option. On the other hand Menios Koutsogiorgas,Dimitris Tsovolas and Giorgos Petsos presented themselves to court with Tsovolas getting in constant constrast with the judges.
