After the conclusion of the investigation Koskotas sold the Bank of Crete to the Arfanis-Hiotis association,Grammi S.A to Giannis Alafouzos and Olympiacos to Argiris Saliarelis.Saliarelis then helped him leave Greece.He went to Brazil and thereafter to the USA where he was imprisoned in Salem's prisons.He was then sent to Greece where he was imprisoned in the 16th of March 2011 after serving 3/5 of his term.
== Formation of the coalition government ==
In the Greek legislative elections of June 1989,New Democracy and Synaspismos agreed to form a coalition government in order to cleanse Greece from the political scandals of PASOK (Koskotas scandals was only one of the many political scandals that PASOK was involved in).The decision of that government to criminalize the political scenery of the past led the period of the governmental coalition to be called the "dirty 89" (Βρώμικο 89).However the public interest moved into the treatment of the politicians that were involed in the scandal and not its main protagonist Giorgos Koskotas.
