Τα εκπαιδευτικά ιδρύματα που παρέχουν πτυχία Ανώτατης Εκπαίδευσης στην Ελλάδα ονομάζονται '''Ανώτατα Εκπαιδευτικά Ιδρύματα''' ('''Α.Ε.Ι.''') και από το 2001 διακρίνονται σε Πανεπιστήμια και [[Τεχνολογικό Εκπαιδευτικό Ίδρυμα | Τεχνολογικά Εκπαιδευτικά Ιδρύματα]]. Με τον νόμο 4610/19 (ΦΕΚ 70 Α/19) το [[Τεχνολογικό Εκπαιδευτικό Ίδρυμα Δυτικής Ελλάδας]] καταργείται και οι σχολές ΣΤΕΓ&ΤΕΤΡΟΔ, ΣΔΟ και ΣΕΥΠ μαζί με τα τμήματα αυτών απορροφούνται από το [[Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών]], ενώ η ΣΤΕφ απορροφάται από το [[Πανεπιστήμιο Πελοποννήσου]]. Στις 25/04/2019, το [[Τεχνολογικό Εκπαιδευτικό Ίδρυμα Πελοποννήσου]] καταργείται ως αυτοτελές νομικό πρόσωπο και συγχωνεύεται με το [[Πανεπιστήμιο Πελοποννήσου]].<sup>[[Τεχνολογικό Εκπαιδευτικό Ίδρυμα Πελοποννήσου#cite%20note-1|[1]]]</sup> Ο Νόμος αυτός έρχεται να ανανεώσει τον χάρτη της Τριτοβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης δημιουργώντας, συγχωνεύοντας και καταργώντας σχολές και τμήματα. Η λειτουργία των περισσότερων τμημάτων αρχίζει από το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2019-20.
