It is better to do that while they are vandalising, so you know what patterns to block. I had forgotten that elwiki had abuse filter 2 days ago. That is normally a better option that blocking, so perhaps reading mw:AbuseFilter instructions will be helpful to you. I'll be sure to tune them when there is a vandal attack in the future.
