Stamp of Greece; 1937; definitive stamp of the issue "Greek History" ; The stamp motive shows a depiction of the marble statue "Venus of Milo" (Roman for "Aphrodite of Milos") a marble statue of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, found on the island of Milos (Aegean Sea) from ca. 130-100 BC (= the Hellenistic period of the Greek Antique (300-30 BC)), then part of the Ottoman Empire, contemporary part of Greece.; This statue was purchased for France and was a present for King Louis XVIII in 1821 which gave it to the "Musée du Louvre", where this statue is still actually located.; The printery of this stamp was "Aspioti-Elka" (= narrow connection to De La Rue in London); This printery was founded in 1873 by Gerasimus Aspiotis on Corfu as factory for playing cards.; In 1911 as printery for stamps and banknotes ("Aspiotis Brothers").; In 1933 re-naming in "Aspiotis-Elka" ("Elka" = "Etairia Lithographias kai Kytiopoieias Athenon"), since 1984 S.A.; stamp postmarked
