Στα [[Λεξικό|λεξικά]] [[Ριαζάν]] και [[Ταμπόφ]] διαλέκτους που ανήκει στην ανατολική ομάδα των διαλέκτων της [[Νότια Ρωσία|Νότιας Ρωσίας]], η λέξη "Γέσενι" σημαίνει "[[φθινόπωρο]]". Έτσι, λογοτεχνικά αναλογική του επωνύμου "Γεσένιν" θα μπορούσε να είναι η λέξη "Οσένιν" (στα ρωσικά "Όσεν" σημαίνει "φθινόπωρο"). Ωστόσο, αυτό το επώνυμο δεν έχει βρεθεί.
