Γαλλικά αεροσκάφη αντέδρασαν με πολλαπλό βομβαρδισμό του Γιβραλτάρ και Γαλλικά πλοία αντάλλαξαν αρκετές φορές πυρά με Βρετανικά πλοία, πριν από τη σιωπηρή ανακωχή στη δυτική Μεσόγειο. Στις 27 Νοεμβρίου 1942, μετά την έναρξη της [[Επιχείρηση Πυρσός|Επιχείρησης Πυρσός]], της Συμμαχικής εισβολής στη Γαλλική Βόρεια Αφρική, το Γαλλικό ναυτικό απέτρεψε την [[ Υπόθεση Anton |υπόθεση Άντον]], μια Γερμανική και Ιταλική επιχείρηση σύλληψης του υπόλοιπου Γαλλικού στόλου στο Τουλόν και τον κατακερματισμό των πλοίων. Η Βρετανική επίθεση στο Μερς Ελ Κεμπίρ παραμένει αμφιλεγόμενη, αλλά ορισμένοι ιστορικοί τη θεωρούν ως απόδειξη στον κόσμο ότι η Βρετανία θα συνέχιζε τον πόλεμο. {{Sfn|Thomas|1997}}
