Θαμνόφις
Ο Θαμνόφις (Thamnophis) είναι γένος γενικά αβλαβών και μικρών έως μεσαίου μεγέθους φιδιών. Είναι ενδημικά στην βόρεια και κεντρική Αμερική αλλά μπορούν να βρεθούν επίσης στις πεδιάδες του Καναδά μέχρι την Κόστα Ρίκα.[1]
Τα φίδια θαμνόφις ποικίλουν σε μήκος από 46 έως 137 εκατ. (18 έως 54 ίντσες) και ζυγίζουν περίπου 140 γραμμάρια.[2] Χωρίς να υπάρχει πραγματική συναίνεση για την ταξινόμηση των φιδιών Θαμνόφις, είναι κοινή η διαφωνία μεταξύ των μελετητών και των πηγών σχετικά με το εάν δυο τύποι φιδιών είναι ξεχωριστά είδη ή υποείδος της ίδιας κατηγορίας. Τα φίδια θαμνόφις σχετίζονται στενά με τα νερόφιδα, με ορισμένα είδη να κινούνται μεταξύ αυτών των κατηγοριών.
