ΜΟΝΗΡΗ: Τα μονηρη ειναι οι απλουστερες μορφες ζωης. Υπαρχουν 2 κυρια ειδη. Τα βακτηρια και τα κυανοφυκη. Το χαρακτηριστικοτους γνωρισμα ειναι οτι τα κυτταρα τους δεν εχουν πυρηνα, Απο τα απολιθωματα βλεπουμε οτι τα μονηρη ηταν οι πρωτες μορφες ζωης πανω στην Γη.
Η ταξινόμηση μονήρη προτάθηκε ως φύλο από τον [[Ερνστ Χέκελ]] το 1866. Ακολούθως, το φύλο ανέβηκε στην τάξη του βασιλείου το 1925 από τον Εντουάρ Σατόν. Η τελευταία κοινώς αποδεκτή ταξινόμηση με την τάξη Μονήρη ήταν το σύστημα ταξινόμησης πέντε βασιλείων που καθόρισε ο [[Ρόμπερτ Γουίτακερ]] το 1969.
Under the [[three-domain system]] of [[Taxonomy (biology)|taxonomy]], introduced by [[Carl Woese]] in 1977, which reflects the evolutionary history of life, the organisms found in kingdom Monera have been divided into two [[Domain (biology)|domains]], [[Archaea]] and [[Bacteria]] (with [[Eukarya]] as the third domain). Furthermore, the taxon Monera is [[paraphyletic]] (does not include all descendants of their most-recent common ancestor), as [[Archaea]] and [[Eukarya]] are currently believed to be more closely related than either is to [[Bacteria]].
