Ο όρος Νεοναζισμός μπορεί να αναφέρεται και στην ιδεολογία των εν λόγω ρευμάτων, τα οποία δανείζονται συγκεκριμένα χαρακτηριστικά από το Ναζιστικό φάσμα, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του ακραίου εθνικισμού, του αντικομμουνισμού, ρατσισμού, των διακρίσεων, ομοφοβίας, χενοφοβίας, αντισημιτισμού, μέχρι και ενεργοποίησης του ίδιου του 4ου Ράιχ. Ένα ακόμα κοινό χαρακτηριστικό είναι η [[Άρνηση του Ολοκαυτώματος]], καθώς και η χρήση Ναζιστικών συμβόλων, αλλά και ο θαυμασμός προς τον Αδόλφο Χίτλερ.
