NGC 4323
νάνος φακοειδής ή ελλειπτικός γαλαξίας στον αστερισμό Κόμη Βερενίκης
Ο NGC 4323 είναι νάνος φακοειδής ή ελλειπτικός γαλαξίας[5] ο οποίος απέχει περίπου 52,5 εκατομμύρια έτη φωτός από τον αστερισμό Κόμη Βερενίκης. Τον ανακάλυψε το 1882 ο αστρονόμος Βίλχελμ Τέμπελ (Wilhelm Tempel)[6] και ανήκει στο Σμήνος γαλαξιών της Παρθένου.[7] Πολύ συχνά ο NGC 4323 συγχέεται με τον NGC 4322, όμως ο δεύτερος δεν είναι γαλαξίας αλλά αστέρας.[8][9]

Αλληλεπίδραση με τον Μεσιέ 100 Επεξεργασία
Ο NGC 4323 είναι συνοδός γαλαξίας του Μεσιέ 100,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] από τον οποίο απέχει 78000 έτη φωτός.[10][14][17] Φαίνεται πως οι δύο γαλαξίες αλληλεπιδρούν βαρυτικά,[12][15][16] γεγονός που δεικνύεται από την καμπύλη περιστροφής του Μεσιέ 100, την ασυμμετρία του δίσκου υδρογόνου του,[15][16] καθώς και την αχνή οπτική γέφυρα που τον ενώνει με τον NGC 4323.[11][12][13][14][16] Παρόλα αυτό ο Knapen et al. έχει εκφράσει την άποψη ότι οι δυο γαλαξίες δεν αλληλεπιδρούν βαρυτικά διότι ο NGC 4323 είναι μικρός γαλαξίας ο οποίος απέχει πολύ από τον Μεσιέ 100.[15]
